Hinckley is a nature lover's dream. This Medina County township of about 8,200 residents is home to the Cleveland Metroparks' Hinckley Reservation — more than 3,200 acres of breathtaking natural beauty. Every March, the community celebrates Buzzard Day, a nationally known event marking the return of the buzzards to the reservation. The area features larger lots, beautiful scenery, and a peaceful rural atmosphere with easy access to I-71. Whipp's Ledges, a stunning sandstone cliff formation, and Hinckley Lake (87 acres) are two of the most beloved spots in the reservation for hiking, fishing, and kayaking. Homes range from the mid-$300,000s to well over $700,000 depending on property size and location. As of late summer 2026, the median sale price in Hinckley is around $520,000, with prices up about 38% year-over-year reflecting the strong demand for larger properties and land. Homes are selling quickly, often going under contract in about 9 to 10 days, with many selling above asking price. This is a competitive market for well-priced properties. Popular neighborhoods include spacious properties and newer developments.
Every March 15, the town comes together for Buzzard Day, a tradition that dates back to 1957 when the turkey vultures return to Hinckley Reservation. The festival features pancake breakfasts, crafts, and wildlife programs, and it says a lot about this community: Hinckley celebrates what makes it unique. The commute works well too. I-71 is about 10 minutes away, with downtown Cleveland roughly 30 minutes north and Akron about 25 minutes south. The area is served by Highland Local School District, and school boundaries can vary by address, so I am always happy to confirm the feeder pattern for the home you are considering.

This Week in Hinckley
It is a great week to be in Hinckley. The lake is officially back open after that big renovation, and the Metroparks are buzzing with end-of-summer programming. This Saturday, August 29, you can join a Learn-It: Kayaking session from 9:30 AM to noon at the Hinckley Lake Boathouse Store — perfect for getting out on the water before summer winds down. And if you prefer to stay upright, the Try-It: Stand Up Paddleboarding sessions run through early September. Also this Saturday evening, Stewart's Caring Place is hosting their 23rd Annual Butterfly Gala at a private residence in Hinckley — it is their biggest fundraiser of the year, with dinner, cocktails, live entertainment, and auctions. It is a meaningful event that supports a wonderful local mission. Whether you are paddling on the lake or dressing up for a good cause, there is something for everyone right here in town this week.

You know those places that just feel good to walk into? That is Z's Cream & Bean on Boston Road. They serve homemade, hand-churned ice cream alongside freshly roasted espresso, and the whole place has this cozy warmth to it — cherry woodwork, granite counters, a stone fireplace. But here is what I love most: Z's is owned and operated by Medina Creative Housing, a non-profit that creates jobs for adults with disabilities. So every scoop you eat and every latte you sip supports real, meaningful employment right here in our community. On a warm late-August evening, there is nothing better than grabbing a cone and heading over to Hinckley Lake to watch the sunset. Try the salted caramel — it is my go-to, and it never disappoints.

This Week in Hinckley
We are in that sweet spot between summer and fall, and Hinckley is making the most of it. The Ledge Pool is still open for swimming through Labor Day weekend, so there is still time to soak up the sun before the leaves start turning. The Hinckley Lake Boathouse has kayaks and paddleboards available daily from 10 AM to 7 PM, and on a warm afternoon there is no better place to be. This Saturday, August 29, the Medina Square Farmers Market runs from 9 AM to 1 PM on the historic public square. It is about a 15-minute drive from Hinckley, and you will find fresh local produce, honey, baked goods, and artisan vendors. Grab your coffee and take a stroll around the square. It is such a nice way to ease into the weekend.

You know those places that feel like a secret worth keeping? Coco Cafe on Ridge Road is that spot. It is a globally inspired bakery and coffeehouse tucked inside a converted old bank building, complete with the original bank vault that you can rent for private dinners and gatherings. Everything is made from scratch. Breads, pastries, crepes, and sandwiches. Their blueberry lemon scone is legendary (I dream about it), and they serve a shakshuka that transports you straight to a Mediterranean morning. They also do savory crepes, focaccia sandwiches, and a cortado that is as good as anything I have had in a coffee shop twice its size. The warmth of the space and the people who run it make it one of those places you find yourself driving to even when you do not need a reason. Go. Order the scone. Thank me later.
