This week in Berea has that sweet-spot energy where summer is still going strong but there is a little hint of fall in the air. The sunsets over Coe Lake have been absolutely stunning, and the mornings have that perfect crisp feel that makes you want a warm coffee and a slow walk downtown. It is one of those weeks where you just want to enjoy Berea at its best.
If you are looking for something to do, mark your calendar for Sunday, August 30 at 3:00 PM - the 4th Annual Classic and Vintage Car Show is rolling into St. Paul Lutheran Church. It is a wonderful way to spend a late-summer afternoon, and you will see some absolutely beautiful restored vehicles from all eras - always a fun community event. And on Thursday evening, August 27 at 7:00 PM, the city's Historic Architectural Review Board (HARB) meets at City Hall Council Chambers if you are curious about what is happening with Berea's historic downtown properties. These meetings are open to the public and a great way to stay connected to everything going on in our community.
Café Ah Roma
If you have not discovered Café Ah Roma yet, you are missing out on one of Berea's best local treasures. Tucked into the Berea Parkway Shops at 38 West Bridge Street, this place has been a community staple for over 25 years and it shows - the regulars know each other by name, the staff remembers your order, and the whole place just feels like home. That kind of atmosphere does not happen by accident.
They serve incredible handcrafted sandwiches, gourmet coffee that actually tastes like coffee should, fresh bagels, soups that taste homemade, and cheesecakes that I will not even get started on because I will want one immediately. Their chicken salad wrap is legendary around town. What I really love about Café Ah Roma though is the heart of the place - they host poetry Sundays and open mic nights, making it a true community gathering spot where Baldwin Wallace students, artists, and neighbors all come together over good food and good conversation. It is the kind of spot where you stop in for a coffee and end up staying for an hour because the vibe is just that good. Stop in and tell them Lisa sent you.
